Taking Care Of My Pet

About Me

Taking Care Of My Pet

After I found out that I would be traveling a lot for my new job, I knew that I was going to have to make arrangements to care for my dog. I was nervous about leaving him behind, but I knew that the road would be far less comfortable than a cozy boarding facility. To find a great location, I talked with some of my pet owner friends and visited each location in person. I was able to find a facility that put pet care above all else, and I felt comfortable leaving my dog. This blog is dedicated to helping pet owners take care of their pets--even if they happen to travel for work.

4 Simple Tricks That Will Stop Cat Fur From Taking Over Your Home

Do you have a cat that seems to shed all over the place? Cat fur is thin, soft and light--which means that it gets absolutely everywhere. Cat fur will embed itself in carpet, get into your laundry and even enter into your central air ducts. To combat cat fur, you need to get a little creative.

1. Wipe Them Down With Pet Wipes

Pet owners are commonly told to brush out their cats. This does help, but another thing that you can do is wipe them down with pet wipes. The pet wipe will pull off loose fur, often more effectively than a brush. Even better, pet wipes reduce the amount of dander on the cat's coat, which can reduce allergies in those who are sensitive.

2. Use a Vacuum, Not a Broom

Getting a vacuum with a hard floor setting will make your job a lot easier. Cat fur is so lightweight that it tends to be kicked up by a broom; it will then just happily drift to another section of your home. Vacuums, especially those designed for homes with pets, will actually get rid of the fur rather than just moving it around.

3. Lint Roll Your Upholstery

Don't purchase fancy fur-rollers; most of them are made out of the same materials as a standard lint brush. Run a lint brush over your upholstery lightly to remove any embedded fur. Don't steam clean furniture before you roll it for fur; this will just adhere the fur to the material more.

4. Use Anti-Static Sheets in the Dryer

Do you have fur all over your clothes? Have you thrown out all of your black clothes? Do you constantly itch? This is a fairly common problem for a cat owner. There's no way to avoid getting cat fur on you, really, but there's a way to make sure it comes off in the wash. Anti-static sheets will ensure that the fur doesn't cling to your clothes as much, so that the fur ends up safely within your lint trap rather than on all your newly washed items. From there you may want to simply hang them up, as what cat doesn't love drawers?

In addition to regular pet grooming, you might want to consider asking your cat groomer, like those at Town & Country Kennel Inc., if they have any suggestions for managing fur. In warmer climates, cat grooming can include shaving--and even a little shaving can help. But, of course, it's not a significant difference unless you can commit to taking your pet to the groomers on a regular basis.
