Taking Care Of My Pet

About Me

Taking Care Of My Pet

After I found out that I would be traveling a lot for my new job, I knew that I was going to have to make arrangements to care for my dog. I was nervous about leaving him behind, but I knew that the road would be far less comfortable than a cozy boarding facility. To find a great location, I talked with some of my pet owner friends and visited each location in person. I was able to find a facility that put pet care above all else, and I felt comfortable leaving my dog. This blog is dedicated to helping pet owners take care of their pets--even if they happen to travel for work.

Sitters Versus Boarding: Why Your Pet Wants To Go To A Boarding Facility

Are you almost ready to go away for the holidays? Are you in the process of looking for a pet sitter to keep an eye on your dog or cat while you're gone? While a sitter can be a great choice for many people, it's not the only choice. For some people, dropping your pet off at a boarding facility is actually a wiser course of action. Here are some reasons why you may want to look into this possibility:

Eliminate destructive tendencies: Some cats and dogs are fine if left alone when you go to work but quickly turn into bundles of furry destruction if you disappear for more than a couple days. Even with a sitter coming by to feed and water your pet, your furry friend may decide to show their displeasure at your disappearance by doing all of the things that they know are forbidden. This may include destroying the drapes, using the whole house as a litterbox, tearing into the couch, and chewing on your furniture. If you've never left your pet home alone for any substantial length of time, you don't know if they will undergo this personality change while you're away. A pet boarding facility is set up to distract and redirect this destructive energy, often by letting your pets play with the other boarders rather than allowing them to spend most of their time alone.

Happier pets: Even if you hire a pet sitter who stays overnight with your pets, the sitter may still have an ordinary day job that he or she needs to go to. As a result, your pets will still be left alone for most of the day. While you may not have the type of cat or dog who will tear up your home, he or she may still be sad and lonely without anyone else around. With a pet boarding facility, your pet can have the company of both humans and other animals, helping to ensure that he or she won't be feeling lonely.

Better responsibility: When you hire a pet sitter, you have no guarantee that he or she will actually do as you want. While a good pet sitter will do things like read to your pet, if that's what keeps them happy, it's also possible that you could inadvertently hire a pet sitter who only shows up every couple days to feed and water your pet. Even if the pet sitter starts out with the best intentions, an illness could derail their ability to properly attend to your pet. Since your pet can't tell you what really happened, you could wind up paying someone to neglect your pet. A pet boarding facility has many employees so that if one is out sick or forgets to refill the water dish of one of the boarders, the other employees will be able to make up for any oversights.
